Editor's Note

I can’t think of a better medium than children’s books to nourish young minds. Great children’s books are artifacts of wisdom, that cuts across all lines of division that adulthood mandates us on erecting, and speak to us the deepest, most eternal truths about what it means to live a meaningful, beautiful life. Although written with children in mind, these books speak to all of us, to the inner child we often neglect under the pretense of adulthood.

I grew up with limited access to good children’s books. But even a brief encounter offered me a refuge and an education that I feel eternally grateful for. Learning via children books is one of the most cherished memories I hold of my childhood and I sincerely believe in recreating this magic for others.

Gender norms stifle human creativity. Just as I have tried to change that for girls with projects like Menstrupedia and She Can You Can in the past, Boyish children’s books is my attempt to change that for boys. Our approach to achieve gender equality needs to be inclusive of boys, and I hope these books provide the tools to achieve that.
